We have a few members who are designated ‘Trainers’ who can help you learn to fly from scratch, or help you brush up on technique.
Usually a ‘beginner’ will start by buddy-boxing, where they and their trainer each have a transmitter that controls the same plane. The trainer will get the plane in the air and, when it’s safely up there, hand control to the pupil by simply holding a switch on their transmitter.
If the pupil starts to get into problems, the trainer can immediately take control back, put the plane back into a safe state and hand control back.
Over time, the amount done by the trainer gets less until the pupil can go solo.
We want all members to eventually gain their A certificate from the BMFA to prove they know how to fly safely. It’s not mandatory, but it’s something to aim for.
